Firefox 3 Mac OSX Flash Flicker
Been battling this over the last couple of days and finally have some insight. In FF3 for Mac OSX sometimes you get a flicker on the page when you click on any buttons. Sometimes it even leaves artifacts on the page of your next view. Very annoying.
Since the site I was currently building was using the Gaia framework, I decided to hijack the onBeforeGoto event, delay the release of it by 100ms and then have the page move on. This seemed to fix the issue.
Talking with Steven Sacks through his forum, here is what he had to say:
“This is a terrible bug that only happens in Firefox 3 for OSX. It does not happen in any other browser or platform. I have reported it to the Flash team, however, the more examples we can give them the better.
Specifically, it has to do with transparent PNGs showing their bounding area. In a prior build of Firefox 3, it was grey boxes. Now it looks like white boxes. Another important thing to note is that if you don’t click on the Flash to navigate, such as using the back/forward buttons on the browser with SWFAddress, the flicker does not occur. The reason your delay fixes it is that your code is not happening inside a click handler.
You can see this happen in a non-Gaia site, too, like the new Saatchi and Saatchi site.”
